Can I?

Can I open my eyes and not see gray?
Can I open my eyes to a bright sunny day?
Can I open my eyes and see all that’s around?
Can I open my eyes to see the sky and the ground?

Can I open my mouth and speak words left unspoken?
Can I open my mouth and sing songs of things broken?
Can I open my mouth to smile away?
Can I open my mouth to speak just for today?

Can I hear with my ears all the beautiful sounds?
Can I hear with my ears leaves crunch on the ground?
Can I hear with my ears the birds in the sky?
Can I hear with my ears all the reasons why?

  1. This was a very emotional little poem, however short, I think what makes the meaning of it greater is the back story you had told us for writing this

  2. Kim, this is wonderfully written. Although you could have chosen some different vocabulary, I think you did a very good job. I really like how you had the same opening of every line and every section.

  3. I really liked this! I honesty don't have any problems with it, and I loved how it rhymed, and the repetitiveness really brought the point of the the lines out. Amazing job!
